He's all set to turn third time lucky. With Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, no less. Rituparno Ghosh's previous efforts with ARB have borne fruit cinematically, and this time around too, it will have a twist of writing genius to it.
If 'Chokher Bali' was adapted from Rabindranath Tagore's 'Binodini' and 'Raincoat' styled on an O Henry story, Ghosh;s third flick with ARB is slated to be based upon Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's novel 'Devi Chaudhurani' and will showcase her as a powerful woman, way ahead of her times. Word has it that the role in 'Devi Chaudhurani' will push her limits as an actress since it's being touted to be her most challenging role, as yet.
Reportedly, Ghosh has been in talks with the actress since the two collaborated together and they invariably met every time the director showed up in Mumbai. Recently, ARB and hubby Abhy visited Kolkata and that's when plans for the third flick with Aishwarya were laid.
A reluctant ARB states in a newspaper quote, "Ritu has always approached me with exciting work after 'Chokher Bali' and 'Raincoat'. We were destined to work together."
Another added highlight for ARB is the joy of working in the 'City Of Joy.' "Kolkata has always welcomed me with open arms and I'd love to work here again."
