The Khandala girl, who will be playing a crime reporter in a real life inspired film feels elated to be back in business. Talking to a daily about her role in ‘No One Killed Jessica’ and her year long sabbatical, Rani said, “I am very, very happy to be back. I was expecting the film to be released earlier but those involved might have felt that this is the best time for the release and appropriate to start the New Year with this film. I am looking forward to catch the reviews and more so, the audience reaction to my new avatar and new role.”
When enquired what prompted her to take the role of Meera – a crime journalist in ‘No One Killed Jessica’, Rani quipped, “I don`t try to take the pressure when doing a film. I just stick to what the script demands. What drew me to the film was the great script and the fact that it was an edgy thriller. Had it been a documentary, I wouldn`t have done it. There is something heroic and brave about the character that is far removed from the stereotypical journo. It is the dynamic role of a lady reporter.”
Apprently, Rani did have her share of doubts while playing the part as she quipped, “When I had heard the role, I was expecting the director to give me some reference points. For the first time, I was portraying a character that exists in society. All my other characters were fictional. But the film-maker did not want me to take any reference points. There was not much homework that went into it.”
Speaking about the preparation for her role, Rani said, "I met up some lady reporter and asked them what the experience was like, whether they got threat calls, whether at any point in time they felt like letting go of the case. I wanted the character to be aspirational. I have a huge respect for them. Being a crime reporter is a huge risk by itself and the risk only increases when you are a woman on the job.”
